Strength exercise

Step-up (High)

How to do it

  1. Stand facing a high step or box, tall enough to bring the hip well above 90 degrees when the foot is planted on top.
  2. Place one foot fully on the platform, planting through the entire foot rather than just the toes.
  3. Drive through the quadriceps of the lead leg to press the body up onto the platform, minimizing push-off from the trailing foot.
  4. Stand fully upright at the top with the hips extended before reversing the motion.
  5. Lower back down under control, tapping the trailing foot lightly before the next rep.
  6. Exhale as you drive up and keep the front knee tracking over the foot rather than caving inward.
