Strength exercise
Sissy Squat
How to do it
- Stand facing a stable support such as a rail or door frame, holding on lightly with one or both hands for balance, adding a weight held at the chest for extra resistance if desired.
- Rise up onto the balls of the feet and keep the hips extended so the body forms a straight line from knees to shoulders.
- Bend only at the knees, letting the torso lean back as the knees travel forward past the toes.
- Lower until a deep stretch is felt through the front of the thighs, keeping the hips pushed forward throughout.
- Drive back up by straightening the knees, feeling the quadriceps and glutes do the work of returning to the start position.
- Exhale as you rise and keep the movement slow and controlled rather than letting the hips sag toward the floor.
