Strength exercise

Lunge (Reverse)

How to do it

  1. Stand tall with feet hip-width apart, hands on your hips or holding added resistance at your sides.
  2. Brace your core and step one foot straight back, lowering under control until the rear knee lightly grazes just above the floor.
  3. Keep your front shin close to vertical and your torso upright throughout the descent.
  4. Pause briefly at the bottom before pressing through the front heel to return to standing.
  5. Exhale as you press up and inhale as you step back, keeping the tempo controlled on every rep.
  6. A common fault is rushing the step back, so plant the rear foot deliberately before lowering into the lunge.
