Strength exercise
Lunge (Curtsy)
How to do it
- Stand tall with feet hip-width apart, hands clasped at your chest or holding added resistance if desired.
- Brace your core and cross one foot diagonally behind the other, sweeping it wide like a curtsy.
- Lower your hips down and back until your front thigh approaches parallel with the floor, keeping the front knee over the front foot.
- Drive through the front heel to return to standing, resetting your feet before the next rep.
- Keep a controlled tempo on the way down and a slightly quicker drive on the way up, exhaling as you rise.
- A common fault is rotating the hips open during the cross step, so keep them squared forward throughout the movement.
