Strength exercise

Dumbbell Side Lunge

How to do it

  1. Hold a dumbbell in each hand at your sides, standing with feet wider than hip width.
  2. Brace your core and shift your weight to one side, bending that knee while keeping the other leg straight.
  3. Push your hips back as you lower into the side lunge, keeping the bent knee tracking over the foot.
  4. Press through the heel of the bent leg to drive back up to the starting standing position.
  5. Exhale as you stand up and inhale as you lower into the lunge, completing all reps on one side before switching.
  6. A common fault is letting the bent knee cave inward, so keep it tracking in line with the toes throughout the movement.
