Strength exercise

Cable Row

How to do it

  1. Stand facing the cable stack with the pulley set to mid chest height and take a staggered stance with one foot forward.
  2. Grip a single handle in one hand, or a wide neutral bar with both hands, and step back until the arm or arms are fully extended with the cable taut.
  3. Brace the core and hinge the torso forward about 10 to 15 degrees from vertical, keeping the back flat.
  4. Pull the handle back toward the ribs, driving the elbow past the torso and squeezing the shoulder blade at the end of the pull.
  5. Extend back out to a full stretch over two counts before starting the next pull.
  6. Keep the hips and shoulders square to the cable instead of rotating the torso to help move the weight.
