Flexibility exercise

Butterfly Stretch

How to do it

  1. Sit on the floor with a tall spine and bring the soles of both feet together, letting the knees fall open to the sides.
  2. Hold your feet or ankles with both hands and gently draw them in closer to the body while easing the knees toward the floor.
  3. Let the weight of the legs settle downward, feeling a stretch through the inner thighs and groin as the knees lower.
  4. Breathe slowly and evenly, exhaling as you allow the knees to settle a little further with each breath.
  5. Hold the position for 20 to 30 seconds before releasing.
  6. Bring the knees back together slowly rather than pressing down on them with the elbows, which is the most common fault.
