Strength exercise

Skin the Cat (Rings)

How to do it

  1. Grip a pair of gymnastic rings with arms fully extended and shoulders active in a straight-arm hang.
  2. Brace the core and tuck the knees toward the chest, keeping the rings turned out slightly for wrist comfort.
  3. Roll the hips and legs back and up through the rings, rotating the shoulders as the body inverts.
  4. Control the turnout of the rings with the shoulders and lats as the feet pass overhead and down behind you.
  5. Reverse the roll slowly back to the hang, resisting the rings' natural instability throughout the return.
  6. Keep the breathing steady and treat the rings version with a slower tempo than a fixed bar due to the added instability.
