Strength exercise

Inchworm

How to do it

  1. Stand tall with feet hip width apart and hinge at the hips to walk the hands out onto the floor.
  2. Walk the hands forward until the body reaches a plank position with shoulders stacked over the wrists.
  3. Brace the core to keep the hips level, avoiding a sag or a pike in the lower back.
  4. Hold briefly in the plank, feeling the shoulders support the body weight, then walk the hands back toward the feet.
  5. Keep the legs as straight as comfortable during the hand walk while breathing steadily throughout.
  6. Move at a controlled pace and avoid bouncing the hips, a common fault that removes tension from the core and shoulders.
