Strength exercise

Neck Bridge (Back)

How to do it

  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet planted, resting the back of your head lightly on a folded mat.
  2. Set your hands lightly on the mat near your ears for balance without pulling on your neck.
  3. Press through your feet to lift your hips into a straight line from shoulders to knees, letting the muscles at the back of your neck take and control the weight on your head.
  4. Roll a small amount of weight toward the crown of your head and hold those back-of-neck muscles firm, then ease the weight back under control.
  5. Breathe steadily and move in small, slow increments rather than large rocking motions.
  6. Avoid letting the front of your neck take over or jerking the head, and lower your hips to finish each rep with your head in a relaxed neutral position.
